Paraiso School

Just down the road from the OLOCM base at Los Olivos is the Paraiso School: a primary school run by one teacher, along with parent volunteers. The school receives very little government support, and it has few educational resources. The school is just one small building with limited room for students. The playground consists of tires in the dirt, and a ropeswing attached to a single tree. Close to 25 children are enrolled in the school. Whether it is blessing the school with more resources, or providing children with physical activity opportunities during the day, OLOCM works with the school to support the teacher, parent volunteers, and the children that attend there.

How we help

OLOCM helps Paraiso school in a number of ways throughout the year. This includes bringing much needed school supplies such as paper, pencils, crayons, notebooks, scissors, and everything else in between. When you come down as a group, we recommend you bring some of these items with you in order to help support the school. When you come as a group, you are also providing a day of relief to the teacher and giving her a break from teaching for the day. She puts in a ton of selfless effort and it is awesome to be able to help support her when she needs it.

Coming here is also a good way to bring the story of Jesus into the children’s lives through the use of storytelling. One of our spanish speaking OLOCM staff will tell a bible story to them and teach them the good that God has to offer.
